For IPhO preparation, recommended books include "An Introduction to Mechanics" by Daniel Kleppner and "Heat and Thermodynamics" by Marek Waldo Zimanski. For the necessary mathematical foundation, "Calculus and Analytic Geometry" by George B. Thomas and Ross L. Finney is suggested. To enhance problem-solving skills, "Problems in General Physics" by Igor Evgenevich Irodov is also recommended. These resources collectively cover essential physics concepts and mathematical techniques crucial for success in the IPhO.

Hi, I have notice that Ashcroft, Mermin and Wei worked at a revised edition of the original solid state physics book (here). The book, however, seems to be never available. I have also read that the reason is related to some disputes related to copyright. Do you have any further information about it? Did you have the opportunity to get your hands on this revised edition? I am really curious about it, also considering that I am planning to buy the book in the near future... Thanks!
