Is 29 Too Late to Start a Career in Physics?

AI Thread Summary
Age-related factors can influence career decisions in academia and international labs, particularly around the age of 30. While there are no formal age limits imposed by institutions, personal life choices, such as starting a family, can impact career opportunities and mobility. As individuals age, responsibilities towards aging parents may also arise, further complicating career paths. The discussion highlights that while pursuing advanced degrees like a PhD in physics is feasible at 29, financial support through scholarships becomes crucial. Ultimately, age can affect personal and professional dynamics, but it does not strictly limit career options.

There is but it's not a limit that's formally imposed by the institutions. It's biology.

Basically once you reach age 30-ish you have to decide whether or not you want to start a family, and if you do, then raising kids is going to limit the amount of stuff that you can do. If you are 20, it's much easier to break up with your significant other if you two have very different goals. If you are 30 to 40, then breaking up with someone is much more traumatic.

Also, there are other limits due to biology. At age 20, you can live off your parents and they can still take care of you. As you start becoming 30 and 40, your parents start turning 60 and 70, and increasingly they can't take care of you and you have to start taking care of them.

So yes, there are a lot of age related limits, but they aren't administrative.

Oh thanks for your answer and explanation. I don't think that i never do a marriage and so i live and work easily. if i study physics PhD , already i have to get a scholarship. My family don't take care of me after this my age :)

I don't know if anyone on here works for any of the well known defense companies of your country, whichever country you are from?? Also, if you choose to work in one, do you think the engineering education provide from your school would adequately prepare you for the job. What do I mean by that? Well if you work at say Lockheed Martin and you work in the latest iteration of a missile or if you work at Pratt & Whitney, they assign you to work in the team helping out with building the jet...
Hello, I graduated from undergrad a few years ago with a Major in Physics and minor in Electrical Engineering. I tried to get experience working on and testing circuits through my professor who studied Neutrinos, however covid caused the opportunity to go away and I graduated with no experience or internships. I have attempted to break into the engineering industry with no success. Right now I am considering going for a Masters in Electrical Engineering and I need advice on if this would be...
