AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers on the relationship between social complexity and evolutionary changes, particularly regarding complex social behavior as a survival trait. It emphasizes that effective communication and information exchange are crucial for survival in cooperative species. The ability to share knowledge about food sources and predator locations enhances decision-making and planning among organisms. This communication fosters a better understanding of the environment, ultimately contributing to improved survival strategies. The argument suggests that social complexity, driven by communication, plays a significant role in the evolutionary success of species.

Has social complexity increased with evolutionary changes? Put another way, is complex social behavior a strong survival trait in general?

Generally, the ability to communicate and exchange information promotes survival in cooperative species. Being able to tell your friends where the food is and where the predators are will make it much easier to make plans and decisions. I'm sure there are debatable points on this issue, but I would argue that communication between organisms allows them to improve their understanding about the environment which allows them to make better decisions.
