AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers around a physics-themed song titled "Pendulum," created by a high school student. The creator acknowledges some technical inaccuracies, such as the simplification of the pendulum model and deviations from simple harmonic motion (SHM). Despite this, the song is well-received, with listeners appreciating its engaging music, skilled vocals, and effective lyrics that resonate with themes of classical mechanics and fundamental equations. Participants encourage the creator to deepen their physics knowledge and continue composing.

Physics Song - "Pendulum"

So it seems to me that you all are the kind of people that would appreciate this

This is what I do on my Friday nights. Have sympathy on me. And also, I'm only a high school student...I know the technical side of the song isn't perfect (i.e. it's assuming a simple pendulum, it's not precisely SHM, and probably other things I don't know about...)

Still, hope it gives you a chuckle!

PS - it get's better towards the end

That was actually pretty good. Nice work.

I experienced a certain amount of thrills. The music background is good, the vocalist work is skillful, the words are effective. It taps into things we love like classical mechanics and simple but powerful equations. Good song. The guy should learn more physics and compose more songs.

Similar to the 2024 thread, here I start the 2025 thread. As always it is getting increasingly difficult to predict, so I will make a list based on other article predictions. You can also leave your prediction here. Here are the predictions of 2024 that did not make it: Peter Shor, David Deutsch and all the rest of the quantum computing community (various sources) Pablo Jarrillo Herrero, Allan McDonald and Rafi Bistritzer for magic angle in twisted graphene (various sources) Christoph...
Thread 'My experience as a hostage'
I believe it was the summer of 2001 that I made a trip to Peru for my work. I was a private contractor doing automation engineering and programming for various companies, including Frito Lay. Frito had purchased a snack food plant near Lima, Peru, and sent me down to oversee the upgrades to the systems and the startup. Peru was still suffering the ills of a recent civil war and I knew it was dicey, but the money was too good to pass up. It was a long trip to Lima; about 14 hours of airtime...
