Math: A Path Forward as a Senior in High School

AI Thread Summary
As a senior in high school developing an interest in math, pursuing a math-related field is advisable. First-year math courses are generally broad, covering essential topics like Calculus and Linear Algebra, which will provide a solid foundation. It is beneficial to explore other subjects, such as chemistry and biology, to keep options open for potential program changes. For those highly motivated, studying an introductory analysis book can offer insights into advanced math concepts. Engaging with these resources will help clarify future academic paths in mathematics.

First year math is usually very general (in fact, first year science is also really general). You will be required to take Calculus and Linear Algebra for sure and perhaps some other courses like an intro to proofs. My point is that you should be able to test the waters of math while taking some other courses in programs that may interest you (ie taking some chemistry and biology courses in case you may want to switch to a physical science program).

If you are really motivated you may want to find an intro Analysis book such as "Elementary Analysis: The Theory of Calculus", which is probably difficult for a high school student but it will give you a good idea of what you're going to do in your second year in math.

Hey, I am Andreas from Germany. I am currently 35 years old and I want to relearn math and physics. This is not one of these regular questions when it comes to this matter. So... I am very realistic about it. I know that there are severe contraints when it comes to selfstudy compared to a regular school and/or university (structure, peers, teachers, learning groups, tests, access to papers and so on) . I will never get a job in this field and I will never be taken serious by "real"...
