AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers on the interest in mechanical mechanisms, specifically wind-up music mechanisms found in jewelry boxes, particularly the cylinder type. Key inquiries include the size limitations of these cylinders, the duration of the tunes they can play, and the rotation speed necessary to animate features like a ballerina. A suggestion is made to refine search terms, emphasizing that music boxes function similarly to wind-up clocks. It is recommended to explore clock and watchmaking techniques and unique designs, as there is a wealth of information available on these topics.

Hi,Latly I have been interested in mechanical mechanisms and I'm looking for any information on the wind up music mechanisms which are found inside jewellary boxes (like the ones with the spinning ballarina inside), I would like to mainly know about the cylinder music mechanism (especially about how small you can actually get them, the length of time the tune it plays and its rate of rotation ie: to spin the ballerina) rather then the disc ones, any information would be greatly appreciated (I've come to my wits end on searching for more then a simple explination lol) Thanks :)

You're searching the wrong terms. A music box is very much like a wind up clock. Search for clock and watch making techniques, and unique designs. There are countless thousands of them.

Hi all, i have some questions about the tesla turbine: is a tesla turbine more efficient than a steam engine or a stirling engine ? about the discs of the tesla turbine warping because of the high speed rotations; does running the engine on a lower speed solve that or will the discs warp anyway after time ? what is the difference in efficiency between the tesla turbine running at high speed and running it at a lower speed ( as fast as possible but low enough to not warp de discs) and: i...
