AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers on a student in class 10 expressing a strong interest in physics, particularly in quantum, particle, and astrophysics, while also feeling concerned about climate change. The main advice given is to pursue the field that genuinely interests the student, whether that is physics or engineering aimed at addressing climate change. It is emphasized that passion for a subject is crucial, and that pursuing engineering solely for the purpose of combating climate change may not be the best motivation, as implementation of solutions often involves political and business factors beyond individual control. Some participants suggest that while climate change is a serious issue, there are many talented individuals working on solutions, and the student should focus on their interests in physics. Additionally, resources for further reading in quantum mechanics are recommended.

Hi,
i am currently in class 10 and have a lot of interest in physics(mostly quantum ,particle and astrophysics) and want to pursue it further but climate change occurring vigorously around us worries me a lot .what should i do ? pursue physics or pursue a course like engineering which will help in reversing climate change?Mayank

Physics news on Phys.org
Pursue physics.

Pursue whichever you are most interested in, but keep you mind open to other subjects.

What is "class 10"?

Pursue a field that arouses your interest: whether it's physics, engineering, or something else. Don't pursue engineering solely because you think you can make a difference in reversing climate change. Even if you do come up with technical solutions, you will find that implementing those solutions will largely be out of your hands: political and business interests will substantially drive what actually gets done (or not), even if technological solutions are available.

I am sure he means grade 10.

Thanks

I think you are a bit too worried about climate change. It is real and a problem, but the general media doesn't usually point out we have a lot of very talented people working on solutions if it gets out of hand; which is not as certain as some alarmists make out it is. If you want to work on the solution then that's fine, but just be sure its what really interests you.

If you like QM I would suggest at grade 10:

Hey, I am Andreas from Germany. I am currently 35 years old and I want to relearn math and physics. This is not one of these regular questions when it comes to this matter. So... I am very realistic about it. I know that there are severe contraints when it comes to selfstudy compared to a regular school and/or university (structure, peers, teachers, learning groups, tests, access to papers and so on) . I will never get a job in this field and I will never be taken serious by "real"...
Yesterday, 9/5/2025, when I was surfing, I found an article The Schwarzschild solution contains three problems, which can be easily solved - Journal of King Saud University - Science ABUNDANCE ESTIMATION IN AN ARID ENVIRONMENT https://jksus.org/the-schwarzschild-solution-contains-three-problems-which-can-be-easily-solved/ that has the derivation of a line element as a corrected version of the Schwarzschild solution to Einstein’s field equation.
