Need an help in Modal Analysis

AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers on conducting a modal analysis of an audio system attached to a car's instrumental panel using ANSYS 13. The user reports extracting 12 modes, but the first six frequencies are zero, indicating a misunderstanding of the analysis setup. It is clarified that these zero frequencies correspond to the structure's rigid body motions, typical in free body scenarios. Suggestions are made to consider fixing the panel at connection points to obtain meaningful results. The importance of accounting for constraints in modal analysis is emphasized.

Need an urgent help in Modal Analysis

I am doing an modal analysis of audio system attached to an Instrumental panel in a car using ANSYS 13 version software. I have used SHELL281 element for meshing and Black Lanczos method to extract the modes. This shell element has six degrees of freedom. I Have extracted 12 modes but the first six frequencies I am getting zero value. I am not able to interpret the results. request anyone to guide .

The first 6 frequencies will be zero if your structure is a free body. They conrrespond to the 6 rigid body motions of the structure (3 translations and 3 rotations).

It would probably be better to assume the panel is fixed rigidly at the points where it is connnected to the rest of the car.

Hi,
Why did you perform a free-free modal analysis? Why it is useful for? I mean, you should always have into account the constraints, shouldn't you?

Hi all, I have a question. So from the derivation of the Isentropic process relationship PV^gamma = constant, there is a step dW = PdV, which can only be said for quasi-equilibrium (or reversible) processes. As such I believe PV^gamma = constant (and the family of equations) should not be applicable to just adiabatic processes? Ie, it should be applicable only for adiabatic + reversible = isentropic processes? However, I've seen couple of online notes/books, and...
Thread 'How can I find the cleanout for my building drain?'
I am a long distance truck driver, but I recently completed a plumbing program with Stratford Career Institute. In the chapter of my textbook Repairing DWV Systems, the author says that if there is a clog in the building drain, one can clear out the clog by using a snake augur or maybe some other type of tool into the cleanout for the building drain. The author said that the cleanout for the building drain is usually near the stack. I live in a duplex townhouse. Just out of curiosity, I...
I have an engine that uses a dry sump oiling system. The oil collection pan has three AN fittings to use for scavenging. Two of the fittings are approximately on the same level, the third is about 1/2 to 3/4 inch higher than the other two. The system ran for years with no problem using a three stage pump (one pressure and two scavenge stages). The two scavenge stages were connected at times to any two of the three AN fittings on the tank. Recently I tried an upgrade to a four stage pump...
