AI Thread Summary
To solve the steam-related problems, the use of steam tables is essential for determining properties like boiling point, pressure, enthalpy of evaporation, and total enthalpy. Key equations include those for calculating enthalpy based on pressure and temperature, as well as the formula for total enthalpy considering the dryness factor. The discussion highlights the need for clarity on how to apply these equations effectively with steam tables. Users emphasize the importance of understanding the relationship between pressure, temperature, and enthalpy in steam calculations. Proper guidance on utilizing steam tables and relevant equations is crucial for successfully addressing the homework questions.

Homework Statement

Determine by using steamtables for 2kg of steam
- Boiling point if pressure is 5MPa
- pressure if the boiling point is 195°C
- enthalpy of evaporation at pressure 2800kPa
- total elathapy in MJ required to produce 2kg of wet steam with dryness factor of 0.7 at a pressure of 4MPa

What equations would I need to solve the problem?

What equations would I need to solve the problem?

The Attempt at a Solution

My book isn't very descriptive and its the first time in 5 years I am doing physics, long distance learning as well.

I just need help in the right direction to solve the problem

What equations would I need to solve the problem?

Doesn't the problem ask you to use the steam tables?
Or is an answer to that question part of the problem also?

Yes it does ask to use the steam tables. I am just more lost as to use which equations with the steam tables to help with my problem

Kindly see the attached pdf. My attempt to solve it, is in it. I'm wondering if my solution is right. My idea is this: At any point of time, the ball may be assumed to be at an incline which is at an angle of θ(kindly see both the pics in the pdf file). The value of θ will continuously change and so will the value of friction. I'm not able to figure out, why my solution is wrong, if it is wrong .
TL;DR Summary: I came across this question from a Sri Lankan A-level textbook. Question - An ice cube with a length of 10 cm is immersed in water at 0 °C. An observer observes the ice cube from the water, and it seems to be 7.75 cm long. If the refractive index of water is 4/3, find the height of the ice cube immersed in the water. I could not understand how the apparent height of the ice cube in the water depends on the height of the ice cube immersed in the water. Does anyone have an...
