AI Thread Summary
When disposing of old computer equipment, particularly monitors and PCs, it's important to consider environmentally responsible options. Many larger cities in North America have dedicated electronic recycling centers that safely handle devices like CRT monitors, which contain hazardous materials such as lead. Alternatives include offering the equipment for free on platforms like Craigslist or FreeCycle, which can help others in need while keeping the items out of landfills. Additionally, some users suggest creative ideas like repurposing the hardware, such as building a Linux server. Overall, responsible recycling and repurposing are key themes in the discussion.

Since building my new system, this is just sitting around, and I doubt I'll ever use them again.

Any ideas as far as disposal? The monitor works fine, but there isn't too much on the PC worth salvaging.

Just thow it in the garbage or what?

I don't know where you live. In North America, a lot of larger cities have specific disposal/recycling centres dedicated to electronic devices.

Take it apart and poke capacitors :D:D

Offer it for free on craigs list, I got rid of several old things that way.

Or FreeCycle.

Find a recycling center around you. CRTs contain about 8 lbs of lead, and should not be tossed into landfills.
