AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers on an issue with opening an .STL file in Paraview. The user created a file with the extension in all caps (.STL), while a tutorial file has the extension in lowercase (.stl). The user is unable to see their file in Paraview's open menu, despite it being present in the terminal. The key point raised is that certain operating systems, like Unix/Linux, are case-sensitive regarding filenames, meaning that Paraview may not recognize the all-caps extension as valid. Changing the file extension to lowercase .stl is suggested as a potential solution to resolve the visibility issue in Paraview.

Hi PF!

I made an .STL file and am trying to open it with Paraview. When I toggle "open" on the Paraview drop-down menu, I don't see the file (but it is there, since my terminal shows it).

However, when I look for a different .stl file (one downloaded from an OpenFOAM tutorial) I can open it.

When looking at the properties of each, I notice two things: the .stl file I made is all caps STL rather than stl. The other difference is mine has 100,000 bytes where the one from the tutorial has 337 bytes. Would these differences mean Paraview is unable to even see the file through its open menu?

What happens if you change it to lower case .stl?

Under certain operating systems, such as Unix (Linux), the case of letters in filenames matters. For example, you could have the two files mytext.txt and Mytext.txt coexisting in the same directory.

The file browser in Paraview is probably also case-sensitive, such that a file will the extension .STL will not be recognized as a file that can be opened by Paraview, and hence is not shown.

Thread 'Urgent: Physically repair - or bypass - power button on Asus laptop'
Asus Vivobook S14 flip. The power button is wrecked. Unable to turn it on AT ALL. We can get into how and why it got wrecked later, but suffice to say a kitchen knife was involved: These buttons do want to NOT come off, not like other lappies, where they can snap in and out. And they sure don't go back on. So, in the absence of a longer-term solution that might involve a replacement, is there any way I can activate the power button, like with a paperclip or wire or something? It looks...
