Physics text book for electric motor

AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers on finding suitable physics textbooks for a report on the mechanics of electric generators. Participants clarify whether the focus is on mechanical aspects, such as centrifugal loads and rotor dynamics, or on electromechanical processes like torque development and winding distributions. Recommendations for relevant textbooks include "Power Electronics and Motor Drives: Advances and Trends" by Bimal K. Bose, "Modeling and High Performance Control of Electric Machines" by John Chiasson, and "Electric Machinery" by Fitzgerald, Kingsley, and Umans. These texts primarily address electric motors but are deemed useful for understanding electric generator mechanics.

For my assignment I have to write a report on the mechanics of an electric generator. I need to reference for physics textbooks. Anyone able to recommend some texts books that may be able to help me with this?

You say your topic is "mechanics of an electric generator." Do you mean the mechanical aspects such as centrifugal loads on the windings, possibilities for rotor whirl, windage, etc., or did you mean the electromechanical process of torque development, winding distributions, torque ripple, etc, or perhaps something else altogether

Hello, you are not so advanced these references for your report :.

- Power Electronics And Motor Drives: Advances and Trends Bimal K. Bose
- Modeling and High Performance Control of Electric Machines John Chiasson
- Electric Machinery A Fitzgerald, Arthur Eugene Fitzgerald, Charles Kingsley, Stephen Umans

These texts whose main theme is the electric motor. I hope you are quite helpful. Greetings.

Hi, I have notice that Ashcroft, Mermin and Wei worked at a revised edition of the original solid state physics book (here). The book, however, seems to be never available. I have also read that the reason is related to some disputes related to copyright. Do you have any further information about it? Did you have the opportunity to get your hands on this revised edition? I am really curious about it, also considering that I am planning to buy the book in the near future... Thanks!
