My Exam Story: Reflections of a Confused Student

AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers around a student's recent performance in competitive exams in India, revealing mixed results across three major tests: AIEEE, BITSAT, and DCE. The student qualified for AIEEE but was placed on the waiting list for BITSAT and was not selected for DCE. This has led to feelings of inadequacy and confusion about their academic abilities, despite achieving a rank that places them above a significant percentage of peers. Participants in the discussion emphasize the importance of self-confidence and self-awareness, suggesting that the student's perception of their performance may be overly critical. They encourage focusing on personal strengths and aspirations rather than seeking external validation. The conversation highlights the psychological impact of competitive exams and the need for a positive mindset in the face of setbacks.

Note : Please don't connect this post with my performance on PF ...

Ok people , I am giving you some info :

exams name-----students appeared------my rank(% of students behind me)

AIEEE --------400,000---------13,600 (96.6%)
BITSAT-------- 48,000----------- 3,500 (92.7%)
DCE-------------30,000------------ 4,800 (84%)

I just gave my competitive exams...and this is how i fared ...and the Results:

AIEEE ---- Qualified
BITSAT---- In waiting List
DCE ------ Not Selected

Now I feel like I am not a good student ...and I could have done better... Because I couldn't get into some of the top institutes of my country (India)...
I am retrying next year for all of the exams...Can you please adjudge what type of student I am ?..I am pretty confused...some say you have done soo well...some say you just messed it up...my mom says...you couldnot achieve your dreams...I am allllll confused...

I don't know your "performance on PF",numbers don't show you among "la crème de la crème",i'd say you just need more self confidence and clear head (i hope you're not drinking :-p) to realize where you are,to feel your level and your weaknesses and stop asking others to judge you.

Oscillating results are due to lack of self confidence and mind not focused enough.

Daniel.

I agree with dextercioby (too long username).Everyone knows himself/herself better than the others. You're exactly the one you think. And if you love sth, for sure you can be successful in it.
you know that remindes of astory when people try to ask others about their abilities and the conclusion of story is that "everyone comment on things base on his /her abilities".if they are capable to do sth, they think you're capable as well.

After a year of thought, I decided to adjust my ratio for applying the US/EU(+UK) schools. I mostly focused on the US schools before, but things are getting complex and I found out that Europe is also a good place to study. I found some institutes that have professors with similar interests. But gaining the information is much harder than US schools (like you have to contact professors in advance etc). For your information, I have B.S. in engineering (low GPA: 3.2/4.0) in Asia - one SCI...
I graduated with a BSc in Physics in 2020. Since there were limited opportunities in my country (mostly teaching), I decided to improve my programming skills and began working in IT, first as a software engineer and later as a quality assurance engineer, where I’ve now spent about 3 years. While this career path has provided financial stability, I’ve realized that my excitement and passion aren’t really there, unlike what I felt when studying or doing research in physics. Working in IT...
Hello, I’m an undergraduate student pursuing degrees in both computer science and physics. I was wondering if anyone here has graduated with these degrees and applied to a physics graduate program. I’m curious about how graduate programs evaluated your applications. In addition, if I’m interested in doing research in quantum fields related to materials or computational physics, what kinds of undergraduate research experiences would be most valuable?
