Homework Help Overview

The discussion revolves around calculating the forces acting on a brick, specifically focusing on the net force and its direction. The subject area pertains to mechanics within physics, particularly the concepts of force and friction.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Assumption checking

Approaches and Questions Raised

  • The original poster attempts to calculate the net force acting on the brick and expresses uncertainty about their solution. Some participants provide affirmation of the calculations, while others introduce considerations regarding the role of friction in the scenario.

Discussion Status

The discussion includes both validation of the original poster's calculations and a critical examination of the implications of friction. While some participants support the initial findings, others raise questions that suggest a deeper exploration of the problem context.

Contextual Notes

There is a mention of potential confusion regarding the relevance of friction to the problem, indicating that assumptions about the scenario may need clarification.

Attempt at solution for the last question:
ƩF=f1-f2
Ʃf=25-2.81=22.19N
The force is acting downwards, towards the center of the earth.

Could you lovely people check this over and check if I have it right? Because I have a bad feeling about it.

As far as I can see, it looks right to me.

Woohoo! I'm not going to fail A-level physics! Thanks man.

What about the friction? Imagine they put the brick on your arm. You would feel a downward force as you have calculated, yes. But if they started pulling the brick, would you feel your arm being pulled too, assuming that there was significant friction?

Friction has nothing to do with what the last question is asking.
