AI Thread Summary
Self-studying special relativity (SR) using books by Resnick and A.P. French is generally acceptable, but there are concerns about their age, as both texts date back to 1968. It's recommended to consider more recent resources to ensure access to updated concepts and theories. A suggestion is made to explore Benjamin Crowell's books available at lightandmatter.com, which offer a solid introduction to SR and can serve as primary or supplementary reading. Utilizing multiple books can enhance the self-study experience and provide a more comprehensive understanding of the subject.

I am self -studying SR with Books written by Resnick and A.P.French.

Is that o.k. or should I take some another book?

I am asking this because there are no. of books suggested on
P.F., but these suggestions don't include Resnick and A.P.French.

You should strive to use the most recent books as our understanding changes over time. French is circa 1968 and Resnick is also 1968.

Have you looked at the books on http://www.lightandmatter.com by Benjamin Crowell?

He has a good introduction to SR that might fit your needs as a primary or supplementary reading. Multiple books make your self study more robust.

Hey, I am Andreas from Germany. I am currently 35 years old and I want to relearn math and physics. This is not one of these regular questions when it comes to this matter. So... I am very realistic about it. I know that there are severe contraints when it comes to selfstudy compared to a regular school and/or university (structure, peers, teachers, learning groups, tests, access to papers and so on) . I will never get a job in this field and I will never be taken serious by "real"...
