AI Thread Summary
Memorizing alkanes is beneficial for organic chemistry, but understanding nomenclature is more crucial. Alkanes are relatively inert, so focus on the few reactions they undergo. It's recommended to memorize the alkanes through practice rather than rote learning. There are only four primary alkanes to remember, with the rest being derived from counting in Greek. Engaging with the material will help solidify knowledge of alkanes over time.

I receieved an online organic chemistry prep tool from my college. It includes a couple of sections on alkanes. Do I really need start memorizing all these hydrocarbons for my organic chemistry class?

Just know the nomenclature rules and you'll be fine.

Edit: Compared to other organic compounds, alkanes are relatively inert, so you may want to keep in mind the few reactions they will generally undergo.

I'd strongly recommend memorizing the alkanes, though the best way to do so is to use it and work with it. Have a table ready when you do problems, but try to remember each one before you look it up, and soon you'll not need the table.

There are only four alkanes to remember. The rest is just counting in Greek. See this as an oppertunity to brush up your Greek skills. ;)

I don't get how to argue it. i can prove: evolution is the ability to adapt, whether it's progression or regression from some point of view, so if evolution is not constant then animal generations couldn`t stay alive for a big amount of time because when climate is changing this generations die. but they dont. so evolution is constant. but its not an argument, right? how to fing arguments when i only prove it.. analytically, i guess it called that (this is indirectly related to biology, im...
