Spring stiffness calculation - Curved beam

AI Thread Summary
The discussion revolves around calculating the stiffness of a spring, specifically a curved beam, to determine the load required for a defined deflection. The user expresses confusion about where to start and mentions the Castigliano theorem as a potential method. They provide inputs, including dimensions and material specifications, but seek clarification on the problem statement. Participants encourage the user to share their attempts and clarify the shape of the beam and the deflection point. The conversation emphasizes the need for more detailed information to assist in the calculations.

Homework Statement

I'm unable to calculate the stiffness of the spring.

Once, i get the stiffness i'd like to calculate the load required for the defined deflection.

Hi Vasan! Welcome to PF!

Show us what you've tried, and where you're stuck, and then we'll know how to help!

I don't know where to start. that is the problem.

The Castigliano theorem ??

really i don't know ! Please help

gosh, that was nearly three weeks ago!

ok, what inputs have you been given …

what exactly is the question?

Problem statement - For the spring structure shown in the figure, i need to calculate the spring stiffness.

Input:

1. All dimensions
2. Material Spec

Let me know if i need to be more clear

what shape was it to start with?

what does the arrow mean?

The shape in discussion is the curved beam.

The arrow points at the location where the curved beam is going to deflect.
