STIMON caused a protection fault in module user.exe

AI Thread Summary
The discussion revolves around a blue screen error caused by STIMON, which is related to USB scanners, specifically indicating a protection fault in the user.exe module. Users experiencing this issue on Windows 98 SE are advised to consider disabling the STIMON service through the Control Panel or editing the registry at HKEY_Local_Machine\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Run to set stimon.exe to 0. However, disabling STIMON may lead to improper functioning of the connected scanner. Reinstalling the scanner is recommended as a potential solution, along with checking the manufacturer's support resources for further assistance.

stimon is still image monitor. If you have windows XP or 2000, you can disable the service from control panel->administrative tools.

If you feel comfortable editing the registry, go to this key:

HKEY_Local_Machine\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Run

and look for stimon.exe. Set the value to 0.

However, this is a tool related to USB scanners, so if you do this, your scanner will not work properly. I recommend reinstalling the scanner, and seeing if that clears the problem up.

If that doesn't work, you should check out the website or technical support for the vendor of your scanner, since that seems to be the problem.

In my discussions elsewhere, I've noticed a lot of disagreement regarding AI. A question that comes up is, "Is AI hype?" Unfortunately, when this question is asked, the one asking, as far as I can tell, may mean one of three things which can lead to lots of confusion. I'll list them out now for clarity. 1. Can AI do everything a human can do and how close are we to that? 2. Are corporations and governments using the promise of AI to gain more power for themselves? 3. Are AI and transhumans...
Thread 'ChatGPT Examples, Good and Bad'
I've been experimenting with ChatGPT. Some results are good, some very very bad. I think examples can help expose the properties of this AI. Maybe you can post some of your favorite examples and tell us what they reveal about the properties of this AI. (I had problems with copy/paste of text and formatting, so I'm posting my examples as screen shots. That is a promising start. But then I provided values V=1, R1=1, R2=2, R3=3 and asked for the value of I. At first, it said...
