The Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle -> Life is uncertain

AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers on the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle and its philosophical implications for life, emphasizing that life is inherently uncertain. It distinguishes between two types of people: those who acknowledge and embrace uncertainty, and those who are unaware of their own uncertainty, often appearing more certain than they are. The former group is seen as more enlightened, recognizing life's mysteries, while the latter group is described as fundamentally ignorant. The conversation suggests that younger individuals seeking a more secure future may benefit from engaging with those who are more open to uncertainty, as this can lead to greater understanding and growth.

I had this revelation this other day.

There exists two kinds of people, the ones that's uncertain, and the ones that uncertain on their uncertainty. The first ones are the real certain ones, because they realize the mystery life is, and how much can be realized and questioned.
The ones that's uncertain on their uncertainty often seem certain. They are the real uncertain ones, because they don't, or lately experience the uncertainties. They remain in ignorance, and become the most fundamental uncertain ones in essence.

It becomes a general principle for younger people. That if you want a more certain future, you'll be the most secure hitting on the more 'uncertain' people.

Similar to the 2024 thread, here I start the 2025 thread. As always it is getting increasingly difficult to predict, so I will make a list based on other article predictions. You can also leave your prediction here. Here are the predictions of 2024 that did not make it: Peter Shor, David Deutsch and all the rest of the quantum computing community (various sources) Pablo Jarrillo Herrero, Allan McDonald and Rafi Bistritzer for magic angle in twisted graphene (various sources) Christoph...
Thread 'My experience as a hostage'
I believe it was the summer of 2001 that I made a trip to Peru for my work. I was a private contractor doing automation engineering and programming for various companies, including Frito Lay. Frito had purchased a snack food plant near Lima, Peru, and sent me down to oversee the upgrades to the systems and the startup. Peru was still suffering the ills of a recent civil war and I knew it was dicey, but the money was too good to pass up. It was a long trip to Lima; about 14 hours of airtime...
