What does resistance mean here?

  1. "you know for a fact that a bowling ball drops more quickly than a feather. This is true, but it has nothing to do with gravity. The only reason this occurs is because the earth’s atmosphere provides resistance. "

    friction??

  3. Air resistance, which is a kind of friction. When an object falls through the earths atmosphere, it collides with molecules in the air. It slows the feather down more than the bowling ball, because the feather has a larger surface area in comparison to its mass.

  4. Yes, friction. To be more specific, air drag.

When you see "the Earth's atmosphere provides the resistance",you should understand that it is related to air.You may get questions neglecting air resistance too.
