AI Thread Summary
The discussion revolves around a peculiar visual effect observed during an explosion scene in Mythbusters, specifically a cone-like phenomenon appearing above the blast at the 1:35-36 mark. Participants speculate on its nature, considering possibilities such as a camera artifact, a mach disk-like effect, or internal lens reflections due to the explosion's symmetry. The conversation highlights the need for a clearer understanding of this visual occurrence in relation to explosive dynamics and camera technology. Overall, the phenomenon remains unexplained, inviting further analysis and expert insight. The thread emphasizes the intersection of science and visual media in capturing explosive events.

Here's an explosion from mythbusters.
At about the 1:35-36 mark, there is a particular camera angle where if you go frame by frame, just as the explosion starts, there is a weird disconnected phenomenon right above the explosion(kinda like a cone).

Could anyone explain what that is?
A camera artifact?
A mach disk-like phenomenon?
Something else?

Because of the symmetry, I'm thinking it is an internal reflection in the lens of the camera.

I think it's easist first to watch a short vidio clip I find these videos very relaxing to watch .. I got to thinking is this being done in the most efficient way? The sand has to be suspended in the water to move it to the outlet ... The faster the water , the more turbulance and the sand stays suspended, so it seems to me the rule of thumb is the hose be aimed towards the outlet at all times .. Many times the workers hit the sand directly which will greatly reduce the water...
