AI Thread Summary
A physics project idea is sought that aligns with interests in optics and quantum physics, with a budget of $1,000-$5,000. The project must fit in a garage and leverage three years of experience in the optics industry, particularly in filter design and manufacturing. Access to machine tools allows for the creation of custom optical filters. Engaging with professors for guidance could yield valuable insights and project ideas based on current educational knowledge and personal interests. Seeking specific problems from faculty may enhance the project's relevance and feasibility.

I am looking for a project idea to do over the next year or so. I know there are many threads on this topic, but most are not quite what I am looking for. Here are my interests and resources:

1- $1,000-$5,000 scholarship money to fund the project.
2- needs to fit in the garage.
3- My interest are in optics and quantum physics.
4- I have 3 years of experience working in the optics industry (filter design and manufacturing).
6- I have access to machine tool technology, and I can make my own optical filters.
7- I am a Junior year undergraduate physics major, and of course have access to Doctors and Professors to help.

Thanks in advance for your ideas.

I you really want guidance from professors, ask if they have come across any interesting problems you could work on...

you'll not only get ideas based on your current education/knowledge, but also some personal interest from a professor or two.

So I know that electrons are fundamental, there's no 'material' that makes them up, it's like talking about a colour itself rather than a car or a flower. Now protons and neutrons and quarks and whatever other stuff is there fundamentally, I want someone to kind of teach me these, I have a lot of questions that books might not give the answer in the way I understand. Thanks
