AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers on locating the very first thread posted on Physics Forums (PF) and whether its author is still active. A link to the Internet Archive is provided, but it is noted that the archive primarily stores main pages rather than individual threads. The oldest surviving thread identified is from March 7, 2003, titled "The Source of All the Mind," started by user #2. It is mentioned that the original threads from the first year of PF were deleted to save space, but the founder, Greg, had saved them on a disk that could be purchased for $20. The Wayback Machine does not have records from 2003, limiting access to early content. Additional links to early discussions and member profiles from 2001 and 2000 are shared, highlighting the forum's growth and evolution over time.

That's embarrassing. :))

We've come a very long way and I'm proud to have been allowed to have been a part of it.

If memory serves me well webarchive doesn't store individual threads, just a main page of any forum (well, it is more complicated than that, but I don't expect it to have more than just a bunch of main pages stored).

From what I was able to quickly check this is the oldest surviving thread: https://www.physicsforums.com/threads/the-source-of-all-the-mind.18/

IIRC, Greg was running out of space after only about a year and deleted the first year of PF to make room for more. However, he put what he'd deleted on a disc that he would send to you (for $20 or something).

That disk is where you would find the true first thread.
