Where to Study Engineering and Physics: Germany or France?

AI Thread Summary
When comparing the study of engineering and physics in France versus Germany, Germany is often perceived as the superior choice, particularly for engineering disciplines like electronics, mechatronics, and automotive fields. The reputation of "German engineering" is widely recognized for its quality and innovation. While both countries offer strong educational institutions, the discussion leans towards Germany for its engineering excellence. For physics, including astrophysics and particle physics, Germany also holds a strong reputation. Language is not seen as a significant barrier, as students can learn the necessary language skills, but the focus remains on the quality of education and university rankings. Guys, no body wants to share his experience or information?

Which language do you speak better? Go there.

Personally I associate Germany much more with engineering than I do France. That might just be an American bias but "German engineering" is equivalent of good quality in colloquial language here.

I am asking for my students,
They are english educated and have french background, but in all cases they should enter special school to learn french or german.
So the language is not the big deal, i am asking university rating and engineering quality wise.
Which is better?

would you buy a German car or french 1 ?? :)
go with Germany for sure.

Fast forward to 0:20. You know the Germans always make good stuff...

TL;DR Summary: I want to do a PhD in applied math but I hate group theory, is this a big problem? Hello, I am a second-year math and physics double major with a minor in data science. I just finished group theory (today actually), and it was my least favorite class in all of university so far. It doesn't interest me, and I am also very bad at it compared to other math courses I have done. The other courses I have done are calculus I-III, ODEs, Linear Algebra, and Prob/Stats. Is it a...
I’ve been looking through the curricula of several European theoretical/mathematical physics MSc programs (ETH, Oxford, Cambridge, LMU, ENS Paris, etc), and I’m struck by how little emphasis they place on advanced fundamental courses. Nearly everything seems to be research-adjacent: string theory, quantum field theory, quantum optics, cosmology, soft matter physics, black hole radiation, etc. What I don’t see are the kinds of “second-pass fundamentals” I was hoping for, things like...
