AI Thread Summary
The discussion revolves around the decision to drop either Globalization or Philosophy and Social Ethics for an easier semester. Participants note that while the workload appears similar based on the syllabi, Globalization may involve slightly more work. The timing of the Philosophy class, scheduled later in the afternoon, adds to the difficulty of the decision. A key point raised is that personal interest in a subject often correlates with perceived difficulty, suggesting that choosing the class one is more passionate about could lead to a more manageable experience.

I want to have an easier semester and I'm thinking about dropping either Globalization or Philosophy and Social Ethics. Which of these classes is usually harder? I know this may vary by professor and the university but in general which of these subjects is more difficult?

Based off the syllabus for both classes, they seem to have the same amount of work. Globalization might have a little more work. The other class is late in the afternoon though so it's tough to decide.

As a rule of thumb, the easier class is the one you are more interested in. Which one is that?

Hey, I am Andreas from Germany. I am currently 35 years old and I want to relearn math and physics. This is not one of these regular questions when it comes to this matter. So... I am very realistic about it. I know that there are severe contraints when it comes to selfstudy compared to a regular school and/or university (structure, peers, teachers, learning groups, tests, access to papers and so on) . I will never get a job in this field and I will never be taken serious by "real"...
TL;DR Summary: I want to do a PhD in applied math but I hate group theory, is this a big problem? Hello, I am a second-year math and physics double major with a minor in data science. I just finished group theory (today actually), and it was my least favorite class in all of university so far. It doesn't interest me, and I am also very bad at it compared to other math courses I have done. The other courses I have done are calculus I-III, ODEs, Linear Algebra, and Prob/Stats. Is it a...
