SUMMARY

The discussion centers on recommendations for introductory statics textbooks for first-year engineering students, specifically focusing on the course "Applied Mechanics." Participants suggest "Engineering Mechanics: Statics" by R.C. Hibbeler as a standard choice. Another notable mention is "Vector Mechanics for Engineers: Statics" (10th Edition) by Beer and Johnson, which is considered comparable in quality. The consensus indicates that both textbooks are suitable for foundational understanding in statics.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of basic engineering principles
  • Familiarity with statics concepts
  • Knowledge of vector analysis
  • Access to course materials, such as the unit outline for "CIV1500"
NEXT STEPS
  • Research "Engineering Mechanics: Statics" by R.C. Hibbeler for comprehensive coverage of statics principles
  • Explore "Vector Mechanics for Engineers: Statics" (10th Edition) by Beer and Johnson for alternative perspectives
  • Review the unit outline for "CIV1500" to align textbook content with course objectives
  • Investigate supplementary resources such as online statics tutorials or problem-solving workshops
USEFUL FOR

This discussion is beneficial for first-year engineering students, educators in applied mechanics, and anyone seeking foundational knowledge in statics for engineering applications.

Hi All

I am currently doing a 1st year engineering course. The course is called applied mechanics and focusses on statics. Could someone recommend a good introductory statics textbook.

The link below is the unit outline for my course.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

RC Hibbeler would probably be the standard.

would this be higher rated than vector mechanics - statics 10th edition by beer, johnson ?

Probably the same.
