Will a letter of rec from a professor with poor English reflect badly on me?

AI Thread Summary
Concerns arise about the potential impact of a professor's limited English proficiency on a letter of recommendation for graduate school. The student values the professor's teaching and has performed well in her classes, making her a preferred choice for the recommendation. There is a belief that graduate programs, particularly in STEM fields, are accustomed to receiving letters from international professors, which may mitigate concerns about language proficiency. The student seeks insights on whether the letter will be comprehensible and if it could negatively affect their application. Overall, the discussion emphasizes the importance of the professor's knowledge and support over language barriers.

One of the professors I'm asking to write a letter of rec for grad school isn't the best at English. She's from Romania, so I think it's understandable.

She's one of my favorite professors and I've always done extremely well in her classes, so it was an obvious choice to me for me to ask her.

But, will her not so great English be a turn off to graduate programs if they read it? I wouldn't think so because so many professors, especially in the STEM fields, tend to be from abroad in America.

Anyone have any experience in this?

Thanks!

I am very realistic about it. I know that there are severe contraints when it comes to selfstudy compared to a regular school and/or university (structure, peers, teachers, learning groups, tests, access to papers and so on) . I will never get a job in this field and I will never be taken serious by "real"...
