Ionic Mobility & Ionic Size: What's the Connection?

AI Thread Summary
Ionic mobility generally increases as ionic size decreases, serving as a useful rule of thumb in understanding ion movement. Smaller ions experience less resistance in a medium, making them easier to transport compared to larger ions. This concept is likened to the ease of moving a small boat versus a large ocean liner, illustrating the principle that size impacts mobility.

is it true that the ionic mobility increases with the decrease of the ionic size?

Just a rule of thumb. But yes - small ions are easier to move. It is not much different from propelling a ship - it is much easier to move a small boat than a huge ocean liner.

I want to test a humidity sensor with one or more saturated salt solutions. The table salt that I have on hand contains one of two anticaking agents, calcium silicate or sodium aluminosilicate. Will the presence of either of these additives (or iodine for that matter) significantly affect the equilibrium humidity? I searched and all the how-to-do-it guides did not address this question. One research paper I found reported that at 1.5% w/w calcium silicate increased the deliquescent point by...
