A projectile of mass 0.552 kg is shot from a cannon, at height 7 m,?

AI Thread Summary
The discussion focuses on calculating various parameters of a projectile launched from a cannon. Key points include determining the vertical component of the initial velocity, the maximum height reached by the projectile, the magnitude of the velocity vector upon impact, the angle of impact with respect to the horizontal, and the horizontal range of the projectile. The projectile has a mass of 0.552 kg, is launched from a height of 7 m, and has a horizontal velocity component of 5 m/s, with gravity acting at 9.8 m/s². Participants are encouraged to show their work for assistance in solving these physics problems. The thread emphasizes the need for clear problem setup to facilitate help.

A projectile of mass 0.552 kg is shot from a
cannon, at height 7 m,
with an initial velocity vi having a horizontal
component of 5 ms.
The projectile rises to a maximum height of
Y above the end of the cannon's barrel and
strikes the ground a horizontal distance X
past the end of the cannon's barrel.
The acceleration of gravity is 9.8 ms^2 :

Determine the vertical component of the
initial velocity at the end of the cannon's bar-
rel, where the projectile begins its trajectory.
Answer in units of ms.

Determine the maximum height Y the pro-
jectile achieves after leaving the end of the
cannon's barrel. Answer in units of m.

Find the magnitude of the velocity vector
when the projectile hits the ground. Answer
in units of ms.

Find the magnitude of the angle (with repect
to horizontal) the projectile makes when im-
pacting the ground. Answer in units of degree.

Find the range"x" of the projectile. Answer
in units of m.

Again, show some work before we can help you.

i need some help setting up the problem.

Kindly see the attached pdf. My attempt to solve it, is in it. I'm wondering if my solution is right. My idea is this: At any point of time, the ball may be assumed to be at an incline which is at an angle of θ(kindly see both the pics in the pdf file). The value of θ will continuously change and so will the value of friction. I'm not able to figure out, why my solution is wrong, if it is wrong .
TL;DR Summary: I came across this question from a Sri Lankan A-level textbook. Question - An ice cube with a length of 10 cm is immersed in water at 0 °C. An observer observes the ice cube from the water, and it seems to be 7.75 cm long. If the refractive index of water is 4/3, find the height of the ice cube immersed in the water. I could not understand how the apparent height of the ice cube in the water depends on the height of the ice cube immersed in the water. Does anyone have an...
