Acoustics and Fluid Flow - COMSOL 4.2

AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers on using COMSOL 4.2 to investigate how sound waves can influence fluid flow, specifically focusing on water. The user seeks guidance on the necessary physics and parameters to model this phenomenon effectively. There is skepticism regarding the feasibility of coupling acoustic waves with fluid flow in COMSOL, particularly in scenarios without walls. The user is interested in whether incorporating walls would simplify the modeling process and if sound waves can manipulate natural water flows. Overall, the inquiry seeks practical steps and alternative forces to explore if sound waves prove ineffective.

Hello everyone,

First of all I am new here~

Second, I would like to "prove" on COMSOL that soundwaves (sound vibration) can alter/reshape the fluid flow

Can someone tell me the physics i should use as well as all the other parameters to make it work?

if someone is more experience can they tell me all the steps from scratch?

The idea came from one youtube video that shows that when water interacts with sound of 24Hz it can be reshaped
(iif you don't know the video and because i am not sure if i can post it here you can type those keywords and check it).

in anyway like i said I want to prove (or investigate better say) on COMSOL 4.2 that sound can actually reshape the flow of liquids ( and specifically water)

any help is appreciated

thank you

Are you talking about a video like this one:

In that case, this is simply a stroboscopic effect, since the acoustic wave is at the same frequency as the sampling rate of the camera.

I'm not sure there is an easy way to couple acoustic waves with fluid flow in COMSOL, especially if you are considering flow without walls (as in the video above).

Dear DrClaude,

I appreciate your response,

I have watched your video but i am actually referring to this:

my goal is to prove that sound (of same frequency) could alter the flow direction

and i was thinking if i can model and simulate it in COMSOL

if i use walls will it be easier?

in nature for example if i use sound waves can i "manipulate" the flow direction (even for a short period of time) of rivers, streams or torrents or even groundwater level?

can i show this in COMSOL and if yes how?

if i can't with soundwaves of same frequency which other force you recommend me?

thank you in advance

Hi all, I have a question. So from the derivation of the Isentropic process relationship PV^gamma = constant, there is a step dW = PdV, which can only be said for quasi-equilibrium (or reversible) processes. As such I believe PV^gamma = constant (and the family of equations) should not be applicable to just adiabatic processes? Ie, it should be applicable only for adiabatic + reversible = isentropic processes? However, I've seen couple of online notes/books, and...
Thread 'How can I find the cleanout for my building drain?'
I am a long distance truck driver, but I recently completed a plumbing program with Stratford Career Institute. In the chapter of my textbook Repairing DWV Systems, the author says that if there is a clog in the building drain, one can clear out the clog by using a snake augur or maybe some other type of tool into the cleanout for the building drain. The author said that the cleanout for the building drain is usually near the stack. I live in a duplex townhouse. Just out of curiosity, I...
I have an engine that uses a dry sump oiling system. The oil collection pan has three AN fittings to use for scavenging. Two of the fittings are approximately on the same level, the third is about 1/2 to 3/4 inch higher than the other two. The system ran for years with no problem using a three stage pump (one pressure and two scavenge stages). The two scavenge stages were connected at times to any two of the three AN fittings on the tank. Recently I tried an upgrade to a four stage pump...
