How Can I Self-Study Dynamic Systems?

AI Thread Summary
To self-study dynamic systems, a foundational understanding of physics and applied differential equations is essential. Starting with spring vibrational mechanics is recommended, as it often appears in applied ODE courses. "System Dynamics" by Palm is highlighted as a valuable resource, providing numerous examples and MATLAB programming guidance for numerical solutions. Engaging with relevant books and articles tailored to your current knowledge level will enhance your learning experience. This approach will effectively build your understanding of dynamic systems.

Hi guys,

I'm a pure math master degree. Interested in studying dynamic systems, I want to learn more about this subject without any academic course.(just self study)

How can I start it? Which books , articles and subjects?

Depends, what level of physics/dynamics do you have? Maybe we can start there. After that the easiest place to start is spring vibrational mechanics, you probably should've solved that in any applied differential equations (Applied ODE/PDE) course (If you took any).

"System Dynamics" by Palm is a good resource. It's the textbook I used. It's really good with lots of examples on how to build MATLAB programs to solve things numerically.

Thread 'I need a concave mirror with a focal length length of 150 feet'
I need to cut down a 3 year old dead tree from top down so tree causes no damage with small pieces falling. I need a mirror with a focal length of 150 ft. 12" diameter to 36" diameter will work good but I can't think of any easy way to build it. Nothing like this for sale on Ebay. I have a 30" Fresnel lens that I use to burn stumps it works great. Tree service wants $2000.
Hi all, i have some questions about the tesla turbine: is a tesla turbine more efficient than a steam engine or a stirling engine ? about the discs of the tesla turbine warping because of the high speed rotations; does running the engine on a lower speed solve that or will the discs warp anyway after time ? what is the difference in efficiency between the tesla turbine running at high speed and running it at a lower speed ( as fast as possible but low enough to not warp de discs) and: i...
