AI Thread Summary
Betty walks from Bay Farm Bridge to the Hornet at an average speed of 0.8 m/s for 1.8 hours. To calculate the distance, the formula used is distance equals speed multiplied by time. It is crucial to convert the time from hours to seconds, resulting in 6480 seconds (1.8 hours x 3600 seconds/hour). Multiplying the speed (0.8 m/s) by the time (6480 seconds) gives a total distance of 5184 meters. This distance converts to approximately 5.18 kilometers.

Betty walks at average speed of 0.8 m/s from the Bay Farm bridge to the Hornet (aircraft carrier). The trip takes her 1.8 hours. How far did she walk in kilometers?

I divided it but it never came out right can someone explain how to do it?

You divided? But it is multiplication that you must perform here. speed*times=distance. To remember it easily, look at the units: speed is m/s, time is s. So speed*time = (m/s)(s)=m (=distance). While distance/speed = m/(m/s)=s (=time)

P.S. Don't forget to convert the hours into seconds before multiplying!

Speed = distance/time so distance= speed* time. Do you know how many seconds there are in an hour?

Yeah 3600 seconds

TL;DR Summary: I came across this question from a Sri Lankan A-level textbook. Question - An ice cube with a length of 10 cm is immersed in water at 0 °C. An observer observes the ice cube from the water, and it seems to be 7.75 cm long. If the refractive index of water is 4/3, find the height of the ice cube immersed in the water. I could not understand how the apparent height of the ice cube in the water depends on the height of the ice cube immersed in the water. Does anyone have an...

Starting with the mass considerations #m(t)# is mass of water #M_{c}# mass of container and #M(t)# mass of total system $$M(t) = M_{C} + m(t)$$ $$\Rightarrow \frac{dM(t)}{dt} = \frac{dm(t)}{dt}$$ $$P_i = Mv + u \, dm$$ $$P_f = (M + dm)(v + dv)$$ $$\Delta P = M \, dv + (v - u) \, dm$$ $$F = \frac{dP}{dt} = M \frac{dv}{dt} + (v - u) \frac{dm}{dt}$$ $$F = u \frac{dm}{dt} = \rho A u^2$$ from conservation of momentum , the cannon recoils with the same force which it applies. $$\quad \frac{dm}{dt}...
