Can a worm gear that's attached to a helical gear (so that the helical gear is locked, but the worm gear isn't) go backwards and forwards?

A worm gear cannot transmit power in both directions; it only transmits power from the worm to the helical gear in one direction. The worm can rotate in reverse, but this does not allow the helical gear to drive the worm. Self-locking worm gear configurations prevent the output from driving the input, depending on factors such as lead angle and coefficient of friction. Understanding these mechanics is crucial for applications requiring precise control of motion.
