Civil Engineering BS and Physics Master

AI Thread Summary
To transition from a civil engineering background to a career in astrophysics, pursuing a physics graduate degree and a PhD is feasible. It is essential to gain a solid foundation in astrophysics through relevant university courses. Aspiring astrophysicists should focus on developing strong mathematical skills to understand complex theories and phenomena in space. The geographical location can influence opportunities, with more resources available in the USA and Europe. Ultimately, a strong desire and commitment to the field are crucial for success. For additional guidance, reviewing related threads on transitioning to physics from other disciplines is recommended.

Hi
I think if you want to be an astrophysicist you should have education in university on the department of astrophysics. You have to find some theory or if you an engineer you have to create something so important for example how we can fly into deep space with speed of light(maybe it's not good example but I hope you understand me ) but it is engineering, astrophysicists know so many math formulas because of this they can explain some events and objects in space.
The second factor is where do you live if you live in USA or in Europe you have more chances to be an astrophysicist.
But the most important is your desire. I wish that your dream will come to you:wink:

Hey, I am Andreas from Germany. I am currently 35 years old and I want to relearn math and physics. This is not one of these regular questions when it comes to this matter. So... I am very realistic about it. I know that there are severe contraints when it comes to selfstudy compared to a regular school and/or university (structure, peers, teachers, learning groups, tests, access to papers and so on) . I will never get a job in this field and I will never be taken serious by "real"...
Yesterday, 9/5/2025, when I was surfing, I found an article The Schwarzschild solution contains three problems, which can be easily solved - Journal of King Saud University - Science ABUNDANCE ESTIMATION IN AN ARID ENVIRONMENT https://jksus.org/the-schwarzschild-solution-contains-three-problems-which-can-be-easily-solved/ that has the derivation of a line element as a corrected version of the Schwarzschild solution to Einstein’s field equation. This article's date received is 2022-11-15...
