Comparing Engineering and Physics Programs at this School

AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers around the reputation of a specific school's physics department compared to the University of California (UC) system. Participants express that while the school is well-regarded for its engineering program, its physics department may not have the same level of recognition. The consensus leans towards the UC schools being superior in terms of undergraduate physics education, suggesting that prospective students might find better opportunities and resources within the UC system for their physics studies.

Hey guys, I know this school has a great reputation for its engineering department, but does anyone know about its physics department?

Trying to decide between this school and the various UCs. Anybody have an opinion on which school is better for undergrad physics?

Better in reputation? Then I'll say most (if not all UCs)

TL;DR Summary: I want to do a PhD in applied math but I hate group theory, is this a big problem? Hello, I am a second-year math and physics double major with a minor in data science. I just finished group theory (today actually), and it was my least favorite class in all of university so far. It doesn't interest me, and I am also very bad at it compared to other math courses I have done. The other courses I have done are calculus I-III, ODEs, Linear Algebra, and Prob/Stats. Is it a...
