Cyclotron: Why Electric Field Inside Dees is Zero

AI Thread Summary
The electric field inside the dees of a cyclotron is zero because the electric potential is uniform throughout that region. Charged particles are not accelerated within the dees, as they experience no electric force there. The critical area for acceleration is the gap between the dees, where the electric field is present. This design allows particles to gain energy as they travel through the gap. Understanding this principle is essential for grasping how cyclotrons function effectively.

Why do you expect a (significant) electric field, if the electric potential is the same everywhere around the particles?

The important region is the gap between the dees. This is where the charged particles are accelerated by the electric field.

I think it's easist first to watch a short vidio clip I find these videos very relaxing to watch .. I got to thinking is this being done in the most efficient way? The sand has to be suspended in the water to move it to the outlet ... The faster the water , the more turbulance and the sand stays suspended, so it seems to me the rule of thumb is the hose be aimed towards the outlet at all times .. Many times the workers hit the sand directly which will greatly reduce the water...
