AI Thread Summary
The discussion revolves around ideas for physics-themed t-shirts for an AP Physics C class, focusing on quotes related to general physics, mechanics, and electromagnetism. Participants suggest a mix of humorous and insightful quotes, including the famous "And God said, (Insert Maxwell's Equations) And then there was light," and various interpretations of the laws of thermodynamics. Albert Einstein's quotes are prominently featured, such as "Imagination is more important than knowledge" and "If we knew what it was we were doing, it would not be called research, would it?" Other suggestions include playful phrases like "Join the Brownian Movement" and "This is not right... This is not even wrong!" by Wolfgang Pauli. The conversation highlights a blend of academic seriousness and light-hearted humor, ultimately emphasizing the creative spirit in choosing a memorable quote for the t-shirt design.

My AP physics C class has decided to get some sort of physics t-shirt and we are now trying to decide what to put on the t-shirt. So i was wondering if anyone here knows any good physics quotes. I'm mainly looking for quotes that are general or deal with Mechanics or E/M. thanks for any help you can offer.

Hmm. You could do the old...

"And God said,

(Insert Maxwell's Equations)

And then there was light"

Joke or you could do the three laws of thermodaynamics:
1. You Can't Win (Conservation of Energy)
2. You can't break even. (Entropy)
3. You can't quit. (No Absolute Zero)

I am a complex physics student: My grade has both a real, and an imaginary part.

Let's get physical...

After looking at the responses, I think your best option is to not make such a shirt. :-p

I thinking the OP was looking for famous quotes by physicists, not lines from geeky t-shirts!

Imagination is more important than knowledge. -- Albert Einstein

Or, for a lighter effect:

"If we knew what it was we were doing, it would not be called research, would it?"
- Albert Einstein

Or, just to plain perplex:

"If one studies too zealously, one easily loses his pants." --Albert Einstein
(You could all get your group photo wearing your T-shirts - just make sure to order the extra long ones)

Great spirits have always encountered violent opposition from mediocre minds - Einstein.

The way I heard it was:
1) No matter how hard you try, the best that you can do is break even.
2) You can only break even at absolute zero.
3) Absolute zero is impossible to attain.
4) No matter how much you shake it, the last drop always goes down your pants.

"Repeal Ohm's Law"

Then, again, that might get met with some resistance. How about:

"Join the Brownian Movement"

Too bad it's not for a Calculus class. This T-Shirt's a classic:

Physics is like sex, sure it has practical results but that's not why we do it.

To bad its for school, that might have been a good one.

My personal favorite:

"Wrong again, Albert!"

- Stephen Hawking (via voicebox) to Albert Einstein as they play poker on the Enterprise in Star Trek, The Next Generation.

This is from an old contest in Omni magazine, so it's copyrighted.

Mole problems?

Haha I've seen that one on a t-shirt

It's only now that I understand the actual quote. (usually I see only the last three words together.)
