Differential Geometric Methods in Biology

AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers on the application of differential geometric methods in biology, particularly in evolutionary theory, game theory, and population ecology. Participants express a growing interest in the integration of mathematical methods within biological contexts and seek references or experiences related to these applications. There is also a query about the use of physical methods, such as path integrals and quantum approaches, with some mention of works by Baez. Additional resources are shared, including links to relevant books and publications that highlight mathematical applications in biology. The conversation reflects a broader trend of increasing interdisciplinary collaboration between mathematics and biology.

Dear members,

Do you maybe know some good reference for the application of differential geometric methods in biology, especially evolutionary theory, game theory, population ecology. I kinda feel that the application of mathematical methods in biology in general is a field of increasing interest.
You got any experience, references, etc? Has it even been applied yet?

Maybe a second question: What about physical methods (e.g. path integrals or other quantum methods)? I know some papers by Baez, but anything else?

Thanks in advance,
Kind regards
M

There are a couple of PF videos posted recently on Mathematics in Biology.
Also, the Science Festival on Youtube has a special session on quantum physics application in biology.

I am not as malicious towards theorists as most biologists are, but the phrase did come to mind "I have this fantastic solution, has anyone got a problem which it is of?"
Hope I'm wrong.

I didn't understand this.

Many applications come to mind, actually. Here's three (one is related to the recent Nobel prize in Physiology):

I am reading Nicholas Wade's book A Troublesome Inheritance. Please let's not make this thread a critique about the merits or demerits of the book. This thread is my attempt to understanding the evidence that Natural Selection in the human genome was recent and regional. On Page 103 of A Troublesome Inheritance, Wade writes the following: "The regional nature of selection was first made evident in a genomewide scan undertaken by Jonathan Pritchard, a population geneticist at the...
