AI Thread Summary
The discussion focuses on methods for transferring home video from old VHS tapes to a computer, specifically using composite output (yellow RCA for video and red/white RCA for audio). The most recommended approach involves using a TV card or a dedicated USB capture device, which typically starts at around $50. These devices allow for direct capture of video at DVD quality (MPEG2 format) if the computer meets basic requirements. It's also advised to choose a capture device that includes a good video editing software package for enhanced usability. Overall, this method balances ease of use and affordability for digitizing VHS content.

Hey guys!

I was wondering what is the easiest/best/cheapest (I know I can only have two of the three!) method for getting home video onto my computer is?

The video would be coming from a composite output (yellow RCA jack), and the audio would be the red/white RCA outputs.

It doesn't have to be anything fancy, it's just old VHS tapes.

Thank you:)

Using a tv card or some other input device, you can capture directly to DVD quality mpeg2 if you have a half decent computer. I've done a few...

TV cards or dedicated capture devices (usually USB) start at about $50 and you want to make sure you get one bundled with a decent video editor software package.

In my discussions elsewhere, I've noticed a lot of disagreement regarding AI. A question that comes up is, "Is AI hype?" Unfortunately, when this question is asked, the one asking, as far as I can tell, may mean one of three things which can lead to lots of confusion. I'll list them out now for clarity. 1. Can AI do everything a human can do and how close are we to that? 2. Are corporations and governments using the promise of AI to gain more power for themselves? 3. Are AI and transhumans...
Sorry if 'Profile Badge' is not the correct term. I have an MS 365 subscription and I've noticed on my Word documents the small circle with my initials in it is sometimes different in colour document to document (it's the circle at the top right of the doc, that, when you hover over it it tells you you're signed in; if you click on it you get a bit more info). Last night I had four docs with a red circle, one with blue. When I closed the blue and opened it again it was red. Today I have 3...
