Dropping an EE Class: Will a W Affect Grad School?

AI Thread Summary
A "W" on a transcript, indicating a withdrawal from a course, is generally not detrimental to graduate school applications, especially if it is an isolated instance and accompanied by a valid explanation, such as the need to work for financial reasons. The impact of a "W" can vary by institution, but many admissions committees understand that students may need to make choices that prioritize their financial stability. Additionally, switching the course to a pass/fail option can be a viable alternative, allowing students to avoid a "W" while still completing the course without affecting their GPA negatively.

Is a "W" bad?

I recently switched majors from EE to physics. At the moment i am enrolled in an intro to EE class. Now i want to drop this class, one because i don't need it anymore, and two, i could be working and making money instead of being there. Will the W on my transcript be bad for grad school acceptance? (In general. I am sure it will depend on the school, but in general)

probably not, if its the only one and you have a good explanation needing to make money for living.

Can you switch it to pass fail? and then pass it.

TL;DR Summary: I want to do a PhD in applied math but I hate group theory, is this a big problem? Hello, I am a second-year math and physics double major with a minor in data science. I just finished group theory (today actually), and it was my least favorite class in all of university so far. It doesn't interest me, and I am also very bad at it compared to other math courses I have done. The other courses I have done are calculus I-III, ODEs, Linear Algebra, and Prob/Stats. Is it a...
