FORMULA CALCULATION PROBLEM about FORCE

AI Thread Summary
The discussion revolves around discrepancies in force calculations between two individuals, with one obtaining 56.70N and the other 56.01N using the formula F= (0.1(50x9.8))/(cos25 - (0.1sin25). Various calculations are shared, including attempts to solve related equations, leading to different results for acceleration and additional forces. There is a suggestion to check calculations using radians, which may explain the differences in outcomes. The conversation highlights the importance of formula structure and accuracy in calculations, indicating a need for clarity in the problem-solving process.

Homework Statement

1.)I can't get it why a friend of mine from this forum is getting 56.01N and me 56.70N
2.) I got this solution 50Ncos30-(0.02(20(9.8)-50sin30))/20, what did you get??
3.) (0.4(20x9.8))/cos30+(0.4(sin30)) what did you get?

Homework Equations

1)F= (0.1(50x9.8))/(cos25 - (0.1sin25))
2)50Ncos30-(0.02(20(9.8)-50sin30))/20
3) (0.4(20x9.8))/cos30+(0.4(sin30)) what did you get?

The Attempt at a Solution

1)F= (0.1(50x9.8))/(cos25 - (0.1sin25)) =56.70N

and my friend got 56.01N?

2) 50Ncos30-(0.02(20(9.8)-50sin30))/20=1.99m/s^2
3) (0.4(20x9.8))/cos30+(0.4(sin30))= 73.5N

all I'm asking is your answers on this following formula..

Physics news on Phys.org
F= (0.1(50x9.8))/(cos25 - (0.1sin25)) =56.70N
I agree.
It would be interesting to try the calc with calculator on radians and see if you get 56.01.

so you agree with me? that my answer is correct?? 56.70N? how about the other equations? what did you get?

Let's see:
2) 50Ncos30-(0.02(20(9.8)-50sin30))/20 = 43.1
3) (0.4(20x9.8))/cos30+(0.4(sin30)) = 90.7

I see a mismatch...

But, seeing the structure of your formula, I suspect you need:
2) (50Ncos30-0.02(20(9.8)-50sin30))/20 = 1.99

Kindly see the attached pdf. My attempt to solve it, is in it. I'm wondering if my solution is right. My idea is this: At any point of time, the ball may be assumed to be at an incline which is at an angle of θ(kindly see both the pics in the pdf file). The value of θ will continuously change and so will the value of friction. I'm not able to figure out, why my solution is wrong, if it is wrong .
TL;DR Summary: I came across this question from a Sri Lankan A-level textbook. Question - An ice cube with a length of 10 cm is immersed in water at 0 °C. An observer observes the ice cube from the water, and it seems to be 7.75 cm long. If the refractive index of water is 4/3, find the height of the ice cube immersed in the water. I could not understand how the apparent height of the ice cube in the water depends on the height of the ice cube immersed in the water. Does anyone have an...
