A video showcasing a significant dust storm engulfing a ship in the Suez Canal highlights the challenges faced by mariners in such conditions. The inability to see the front of the ship poses serious risks, as large vessels are slow to maneuver or stop. A participant shared a personal experience aboard a smaller ship during a squall in Florida, emphasizing the importance of using radar and sound signals to navigate safely in reduced visibility. The discussion reflects on the dangers of navigating through severe weather and the necessary precautions taken by crews.

Here is a video of a big dust storm enveloping a ship in the Suez canal.

That's a concerning position to be in for someone running the ship. Can't even see the front end. Large ships are very slow at turning or slowing down.

I have been on a small ship (~250 foot) on a Florida river when a squall (short term storm) similarly reduced our vision. They blew the ship's horn, slowed down (river had curves), and used radar till the storm passed.
