AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers around a physics undergraduate reflecting on their knowledge in relation to advanced topics discussed in a specific Physics Forums thread about quantum electrodynamics (QED). The participant acknowledges their current understanding of physics fundamentals but recognizes that they are still far from the level of expertise displayed in the thread. They express a sense of comfort in this realization, comparing the experience to watching a soccer game—appreciating the skill of others while understanding their own limitations. The overall sentiment emphasizes that it's normal not to know everything and that engaging with complex discussions can still be enjoyable and enlightening.

Hi. I'm at the second year to get my bachelor degree in physics. I actually know the fundamentals of physics. I was looking some threads on PF, then I found this one https://www.physicsforums.com/threads/is-qed-nonrelativistic.900451

My question is, given that I have approximately the knowledge of an undergraduate student, How far I am from knowing those things that the PF participants talk about on that thread?

Pretty far. And no reason to worry whatsoever: occasionally I browse through such threads and realize you can't know everything but it's interesting to see the tough guys slug it out. It's like soccer: you can't play with them but it's still nice to watch a game.

Hey, I am Andreas from Germany. I am currently 35 years old and I want to relearn math and physics. This is not one of these regular questions when it comes to this matter. So... I am very realistic about it. I know that there are severe contraints when it comes to selfstudy compared to a regular school and/or university (structure, peers, teachers, learning groups, tests, access to papers and so on) . I will never get a job in this field and I will never be taken serious by "real"...

This article's date received is 2022-11-15...
