AI Thread Summary
In cases of iron and vitamin B12 deficiency, normalization of MCH (mean corpuscular hemoglobin) levels typically occurs after B12 and Ferritin levels have stabilized. A study involving 60 patients with B12 deficiency indicated that hematologic parameters, including MCH, showed significant improvement over a 90-day period. Early signs of treatment effectiveness, such as reticulocytosis, can be observed within 5 to 10 days of initiating therapy. The study also highlighted that both oral and intramuscular B12 treatments were effective, with no significant differences noted between the two methods. However, in cases of pernicious anemia, where gastric intrinsic factor is deficient, oral treatment may still be effective with specific B12 preparations or higher doses.

In iron and/or b12 deficiency, once levels of b12 and Ferritin have normalized.
How long does it take for the MCH to return to normal ranges?

In this study of 60 patients with B12 deficiency, all hematologic parameters significantly improved from baseline over a 90 day interval. Reticulocytosis is an early sign of treatment effect which should appear between 5 and 10 days. This study compared oral and intramuscular B12 and found no significant difference. However, in pernicious anemia, a deficiency or lack of gastric intrinsic factor would normally preclude oral treatment, but oral therapy can be effective in some cases with certain preparations of B12 or in high doses.

I am reading Nicholas Wade's book A Troublesome Inheritance. Please let's not make this thread a critique about the merits or demerits of the book. This thread is my attempt to understanding the evidence that Natural Selection in the human genome was recent and regional. On Page 103 of A Troublesome Inheritance, Wade writes the following: "The regional nature of selection was first made evident in a genomewide scan undertaken by Jonathan Pritchard, a population geneticist at the...
