AI Thread Summary
PhysicsPost is currently experiencing DNS issues but is expected to be back online shortly. Users have expressed a desire for the 'Active Users' list to be returned to alphabetical order for easier navigation. However, it was noted that the current format may save bandwidth. The site administrators plan to reassess features once the new server is fully operational. Overall, the focus remains on improving site efficiency amidst these changes.

Guess I've been out of the loop for a while. :blushing:

Physics news on Phys.org
It will be back in a few hours. We had some DNS problems over the past couple days.

Speaking of problems...
I didn't want to start a whole new thread for this, so I figured that I'd just piggy-back on this one. It's no big deal, but I was wondering if the 'Active Users' list will be returned to alphabetical order some time. I know that you have lots more important things to worry about; I just find it a bit difficult to read when I'm looking for a specific name.

Greg says it saves bandwidth. :frown:

Once we're settled on the new server I can re-evaluate some features

Cool. As I said, it's no big deal anyhow. If the site is more efficient this way, by all means leave it be.

I want to thank those members who interacted with me a couple of years ago in two Optics Forum threads. They were @Drakkith, @hutchphd, @Gleb1964, and @KAHR-Alpha. I had something I wanted the scientific community to know and slipped a new idea in against the rules. Thank you also to @berkeman for suggesting paths to meet with academia. Anyway, I finally got a paper on the same matter as discussed in those forum threads, the fat lens model, got it peer-reviewed, and IJRAP...
About 20 years ago, in my mid-30s (and with a BA in economics and a master's in business), I started taking night classes in physics hoping to eventually earn the science degree I'd always wanted but never pursued. I found physics forums and used it to ask questions I was unable to get answered from my textbooks or class lectures. Unfortunately, work and life got in the way and I never got further the freshman courses. Well, here it is 20 years later. I'm in my mid-50s now, and in a...
