Is the Distance Between Bodies Affecting Thermal Contact in Ansys WB14?

AI Thread Summary
The discussion focuses on modeling thermal contact between two faces in Ansys WB14, aiming to facilitate heat transfer from one part to another. Currently, the left part remains at its initial temperature, indicating an issue with the thermal contact. The problem is attributed to nodes not meeting in the normal direction from the plane. There is a suggestion to consider whether the distance between the bodies exceeds the pinball region necessary for effective contact conditions. The conversation emphasizes the importance of adjusting the model to ensure proper thermal interaction.

Trying to model a thermal contact between two faces. The plan is to get the heat flowing from the right part to the left part with a temperature BC on the right and convection on the left. At the moment the left part stays in the initial temperature so the contact obviously doesn't work.

I think the problem is because the nodes won't meet when traveling to normal direction from the plane. Any way to get the contact working?

Cheers

Actually the left part has the same temperature as the ambient temperature because of the convection.

Is the distance between the bodies bigger than the pinball region for the contact condition?

I'm trying to decide what size and type of galvanized steel I need for 2 cantilever extensions. The cantilever is 5 ft. The space between the two cantilever arms is a 17 ft Gap the center 7 ft of the 17 ft Gap we'll need to Bear approximately 17,000 lb spread evenly from the front of the cantilever to the back of the cantilever over 5 ft. I will put support beams across these cantilever arms to support the load evenly
Thread 'What's the most likely cause for this carbon seal crack?'
We have a molded carbon graphite seal that is used in an inline axial piston, variable displacement hydraulic pump. One of our customers reported that, when using the “A” parts in the past, they only needed to replace them due to normal wear. However, after switching to our parts, the replacement cycle seems to be much shorter due to “broken” or “cracked” failures. This issue was identified after hydraulic fluid leakage was observed. According to their records, the same problem has occurred...
