AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers around skepticism regarding the authenticity of an ossuary purported to belong to Jesus' brother. Key points of doubt include questionable patina, a dubious source with no reliable provenance, and inconsistencies in the carvings. The decorative elements are noted to have different aging levels, indicating potential forgery. Additionally, the inscription appears off-center, suggesting it was added later, and features two distinct writing styles, further casting doubt on its legitimacy. Overall, these factors lead to a strong belief that the ossuary is a hoax.

Some of us knew it was a hoax back in December...

How did you judge it is a hoax.

It could still be true, but very very unlikely.

There were about a half-dozen good reasons to discount it as real. The patina was questionable. The source of the ossuary was shady, and there is no reliable record of its origin. The 'front' of the box was decorated, but the carvings were done on the back. The carvings and decoration also show a differing level of aging, with the words being of a much more recent vintage than the carved adornment. The inscription itself is off-center, hinting that a later carver chose a relatively smooth and undamaged section to forge the writing on. The inscription itself seems to be it two different writing styles, suggesting that the 'brother of jesus' part was added at a later time.

Thread 'My experience as a hostage'
I believe it was the summer of 2001 that I made a trip to Peru for my work. I was a private contractor doing automation engineering and programming for various companies, including Frito Lay. Frito had purchased a snack food plant near Lima, Peru, and sent me down to oversee the upgrades to the systems and the startup. Peru was still suffering the ills of a recent civil war and I knew it was dicey, but the money was too good to pass up. It was a long trip to Lima; about 14 hours of airtime...
