AI Thread Summary
A user experienced an issue where a saved Microsoft Word 2003 file did not reflect the changes made, appearing as a different document upon reopening. Key points of discussion include the possibility that the file may have been overwritten, which would prevent retrieval of the lost changes. Suggestions for recovery include checking the recently viewed documents list and exploring whether Microsoft Word creates backups of previous versions. If the original file was saved and then deleted, there may be recovery options available.

Hi everyone,

I have the following problem. I saved a file and when I was going to open it, it didn't have the changes I made to it, it was a completely different file. Does anyone know what might have happened and if there's a way to retrieve it? I use Microsoft Word 2003

Thank you,

John

You're saying that the original file without the changes now has a different name than the original and a search of the old name doesn't find the file? Can you be a bit more specific?

When you say "retrieve" do you mean find your changes? If the changes weren't actually saved, there would be nothing to retrieve.

Have you looked at your recently viewed documents list?

I think what s/he means is that the file is the same (ie same name), just the content went awry.

not that I know of. If it was SAVED and than deleted, than there is a way

Well, the file was saved, it might have been overwritten. If in fact was, is there a way to find it, does MS Word make backups of previous versions?

In my discussions elsewhere, I've noticed a lot of disagreement regarding AI. A question that comes up is, "Is AI hype?" Unfortunately, when this question is asked, the one asking, as far as I can tell, may mean one of three things which can lead to lots of confusion. I'll list them out now for clarity. 1. Can AI do everything a human can do and how close are we to that? 2. Are corporations and governments using the promise of AI to gain more power for themselves? 3. Are AI and transhumans...
Thread 'ChatGPT Examples, Good and Bad'
I've been experimenting with ChatGPT. Some results are good, some very very bad. I think examples can help expose the properties of this AI. Maybe you can post some of your favorite examples and tell us what they reveal about the properties of this AI. (I had problems with copy/paste of text and formatting, so I'm posting my examples as screen shots. That is a promising start. But then I provided values V=1, R1=1, R2=2, R3=3 and asked for the value of I. At first, it said...
