AI Thread Summary
A user seeks recommendations for a compact quick connector for a 24V DC LED panel connected to a dimmer via a 4-conductor, 24 AWG cable. Suggestions include using RJ45 connectors, although concerns arise about their suitability for non-standard applications. Molex connectors are recommended for power applications, along with other options like DB and circular connectors. The discussion emphasizes the importance of avoiding standard connectors to prevent unintended connections. Overall, the focus is on finding a reliable and appropriately sized connector for the user's specific needs.

Can someone suggest a product or point me in the right direction of something that will do the following.

I have a 24V DC LED panel connected to a dimmer by a cable that has 4 conductors with a 24 AWG size. I need to put a quick connect between the dimmer and the LED panel. The smaller this connector is the better. Can somebody help me out. Thanks.

RJ45? That's the standard connector for 24AWG phone cable...

Each RJ45 accepts 2 wires. So would I need to find one that works with 4 or could I just use 2 RJ45 connections to connect my 4 wires inside my cable.

No, RJ-45 accepts 4 pairs..

I am against using standard connectors for non standard things. You want something people won't plug their "whatever" in to.

That said, Molex connectors are almost always for carrying power. http://www.jameco.com/1/3/molex-panel-mount-connectors

Other "standards-like" choices are DB (like DB-7), Din, and other circular connectors. Just search for "panel mount power connectors" or just "panel mount connectors".

There may be some ready made molex cable assemblies too.

That's an excellent point, and a good policy. I was under the impression that the OP's system was pretty closed/private, so I didn't factor that consideration in. One compromise option would be to use the outside 2 pairs of conductors out of the 8, since those are hardly ever used in phone-type applications.

Thread 'Weird near-field phenomenon I get in my EM simulation'
I recently made a basic simulation of wire antennas and I am not sure if the near field in my simulation is modeled correctly. One of the things that worry me is the fact that sometimes I see in my simulation "movements" in the near field that seems to be faster than the speed of wave propagation I defined (the speed of light in the simulation). Specifically I see "nodes" of low amplitude in the E field that are quickly "emitted" from the antenna and then slow down as they approach the far...
Hello dear reader, a brief introduction: Some 4 years ago someone started developing health related issues, apparently due to exposure to RF & ELF related frequencies and/or fields (Magnetic). This is currently becoming known as EHS. (Electromagnetic hypersensitivity is a claimed sensitivity to electromagnetic fields, to which adverse symptoms are attributed.) She experiences a deep burning sensation throughout her entire body, leaving her in pain and exhausted after a pulse has occurred...
