Physics noob, can someone explain this?

AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers on a theoretical scenario where continuous pressure from a finger could align atoms in such a way that the finger passes through a table. This concept touches on quantum mechanics and atomic structure, suggesting that under certain conditions, matter could occupy the same space. The original Reddit thread provides additional context and insights into this idea. Participants reference previous discussions on Physics Forums that explore similar concepts. The conversation highlights the complexities of atomic interactions and the implications of quantum theory.

Read this on a recent AskScience thread on reddit:

"Theoretically, if you kept pressing your finger against the table enough times, at some point the assembly of atoms in the table and your finger will be aligned so that your finger would go through the table. It'd then be stuck, but that's what Walter Bishop is for."

comparing a flat solar panel of area 2π r² and a hemisphere of the same area, the hemispherical solar panel would only occupy the area π r² of while the flat panel would occupy an entire 2π r² of land. wouldn't the hemispherical version have the same area of panel exposed to the sun, occupy less land space and can therefore increase the number of panels one land can have fitted? this would increase the power output proportionally as well. when I searched it up I wasn't satisfied with...
